Biographical Sketch:
Dr. Girish Mood is a cardiovascular specialist, who treats diseases involving heart,
arteries and veins. These include acute heart attack (myocardial infarction), angina (chest
pain); heart failure, claudication (leg pain- PAD), venous thrombosis (blood clots), leg
swelling (edema, venous swelling), critical limb ischemia (leg ulcers), mesenteric
ischemia, varicosities (venous engorgement), carotid artery disease and aortic diseases.
After 18 years of extensive training in the cardiovascular specialty from the USA and
UK, he heads the department of cardiovascular services at Health roots clinic.
Dr. Mood received his medical degree from the prestigious Bangalore Medical College,
Bangalore, India. Later, he worked as a resident doctor at Wockhardt’s Hospital and Heart
Institute (now Fortis Hospital) in the department of cardiology and cardiac surgery
intensive care unit. Following which he completed basic surgical training from the
prestigious Guy’s & St. Thomas hospital, London, in cardiothoracic surgery; Queen
Mary’s Hospital and Chase farm hospital working as a resident in the emergency
department, general surgery, ENT, and orthopaedics.
Dr. Mood, migrated to the USA in 2002 and completed his internal medicine residency
from Case Western Reserve University/St. Vincent’s Charity Hospital, Cleveland, Ohio.
He was appointed at the prestigious Cleveland Clinic, Cleveland, OH as an associate staff
in the department of cardiology in 2005. He then completed vascular medicine fellowship
from the Cleveland Clinic, Cleveland, OH; Cardiovascular fellowship from the Michigan
state university, Lansing, MI; Coronary and endovascular intervention from St. Elizabeth
medical center/ Tuft’s University, Boston, MA. He then worked as a consultant coronary
and peripheral intervention at the Priarie cardiovascular consultants, Belleville, IL.
Dr. Mood has been very active academically and represented at many international
conferences. He has been affiliated with various organisations over these years including
Indian medical association (IMA), American college of cardiology (ACC), American
college of Physicians (ACP), Society for vascular medicine (SVM) , society for coronary
angiography and intervention (SCAI), American heart association (AHA), Royal college
of surgeons (RCS), registered physician for vascular interpretations (RPVI).
Dr. Mood’s research studies were related to plaque rupture, stent thrombosis, statin
therapy and its benefits, early percutaneous coronary intervention, atherectomy, venous
thrombosis, anti platelet therapy which have been published in many peer reviewed
journals including Circulation, Journal of american college of cardiology, American
journal of cardiology, European Journal of Cardiothoracic Surgery, American Society of
Clinical Oncology, American journal of medicine, Current atherosclerosis reports, Journal
of invasive cardiology, Annals of thoracic surgery and others.
His interests include adult cardiac diseases, coronary artery disease, atherosclerosis,
prevention of heart disease, carotid artery disease, peripheral artery disease, critical limb
ischemia, leg claudication and ulcers, venous thrombosis, varicose veins, vascular
In his leisure time, Dr. Mood enjoys gourmet cooking, playing piano, outdoor activities
